My task was to design a battery-powered lamp that provides atmospheric lighting in a restaurant setting as well as in private homes.

Mantis is an unconventional tripod lamp, thoughtfully designed to enhance dining spaces with soft, inviting lighting. It features a  removable battery pack, accessible via a convenient push-push mechanism at the top, which allows for quick replacement or compact charging of multiple units. The visually lightweight base allows for a larger lampshade, ensuring a gentle, diffused glow.

The design contrasts symmetrical and asymmetrical elements, featuring a visually striking joint at the base. Mantis blends modern, minimalist, and industrial aesthetics, making it a compact yet impactful choice for functional elegance in contemporary interiors

These are some early concept sketches that were primarily focused on exploring possible product functions. Even though they all look wildly different to the final product and were mostly discarded, they did serve well as a basis for discussion with the client. Thus ensuring well informed decision making.

And these are physical model iterations on the final design. From top to bottom: A quick mixed-dimension paper model to explore scale. A combined paper and 3d-printed model to assess proportions. And a final full-scale model showing the correct volume.
